So it wasn’t a gaffe or a mistake! The South Korean organization responsible for setting age guidelines for video games (the equivalent of our PEGI system) that listed “eFootball” as the title of the next installment of Konami’s soccer sim had the right name!
The Japanese publisher made the news official on its Japanese-language X account this Thursday morning. So there will be no eFootball 2025, but instead “eFootball [version 4.0.0]”. Konami announced version 4.0.0 in mid-September, but no exact date was given.
The announcement also puts to rest, at least in the short term, speculation about a possible partnership with FIFA, which has yet to reveal the name of the publisher that will release the next official video game after the end of its licensing deal with Electronic Arts.
